“Oleander”

Pretty blossoms sway

the spring breezes blow

lush green frouds

white, pink glow.

Poison lurks behind

nature’s outward beauty

protecting green leaves

call of their duty.

Never means to harm

buds open, undone

leave them be

dancing in the sun.

Look, don’t touch

people always said

pretty though they be

beauty leaves you dead.
